FI Online; Earthquake in Guatemala

FI Online beginning Nov. 14. (Please make the following announcement at services tomorrow, forward it to all members on your email list, and/or provide enough printed copies of the attachment to make sure everyone has this information.)

On Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, the inaugural class for FI Online will be webcast at 9 p.m. U.S. Eastern time (8 p.m. Central, 7 p.m. Mountain, and 6 p.m. Pacific).  We are very excited to see this program begin, and evidently many members are as well, since well over 800 are now registered!

Here is the information you need to know:

  • You will be asked to log in to view the webcast.  Please enter the email address and the password that you used when you registered.
  • Once the page opens you’ll see a large player.  Press the “Play” button, and that’s it!  Sit back and enjoy the webcast.
  • We recommend that you log on a little early to test your connection. One half hour before the class starts we will have a “test” video playing—if you see that, then you are connected.
  • We realize that not everyone has a fast internet connection. Don’t worry—we have you covered! For those with slow or limited internet connections you can click on the “Audio Only” link under the player to receive the audio from the webcast.
  • If you need help or have issues, click on the “Need Help” button located on the page. If you cannot find the answers you need there, please contact us at [email protected].
  • If you miss a Wednesday evening class, every Thursday afternoon the class will be archived on the website, and you will then be able to access it at your convenience. Please note, however, that you must be registered to do so.

If you have not yet registered, here are the steps to follow:

  • It is necessary to click the link to activate (or finalize) your registration. But if you click it more than once it will give you an “invalid activation” message, so be sure to only click it one time.
  • After you register, be sure to check your email for the activation link. If you registered, but did not get the activation email or have trouble with the activation step, email us at [email protected] for assistance.

Earthquake in Guatemala. On Wednesday, Nov. 7, a large earthquake struck the Central American country of Guatemala. The Church of God, a Worldwide Association, has many members in this region. In fact, Leon and Reba Walker are currently traveling in the region and were in El Salvador when the earthquake struck. According to news reports the earthquake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale and was the largest earthquake in this region since 1976 when 23,000 people were killed.

At this point, the death toll has risen to 52 with several still missing. There has been serious property damage throughout the region.

Mr. Walker filed the following report on Thursday, Nov. 8:

“As you may have heard, there was an earthquake of 7.2 [now listed at 7.4] on the Richter scale yesterday in Guatemala. Reba and I are in El Salvador and we felt the tremor in the home of our deacon, Jose Antonio Orellana. The room shook for about 10 seconds or so, but there was no damage. I contacted Luis Mundo [COGWA pastor] in Guatemala and he has informed me that the members in Guatemala are all OK.”

Please pray for everyone in the aftermath of this tragic event.
