Growth of the Early Church, and Simon the Sorcerer

The beginning of the early Church was filled with wonder, excitement and explosive growth. But then in a moment came the horror of seeing one of the early deacons martyred and the Church had to flee from Jerusalem to avoid being thrown into prison. How could this happen when they were only trying to obey God? And then came along Simon the Sorcerer and his impure heart and motives. What lessons can we learn from this short segment of Church history?
