In many ways, Peter was a lot like us. He was a small businessman, he had a wife, he had partners in business. He was also dedicated to the truth, first following John the Baptist and then Christ. He was dedicated to the truth of God… yet at the same time he made some rash decisions. Christ knew what kind of person Peter was… from the very first meeting. He knew of Peter’s potential, and he knew that in spite of all the dumb things he might do… that potential was still there.
