Death of the Old Man

The Old Testament lists many bad behaviors that called for the death penalty - murder, idolatry, blasphemy, etc. Under the Old Covenant, sacrifices were required to atone for sins but, under the New Covenant, Christ came and lived without sin and was crucified to pay that debt for all mankind. As followers of Christ, we are instructed to be living sacrifices but we are also called on to put to death our old self - not just bad behaviors, but attitudes, selfishness and carnal thinking. We can't just manage the "old man," we must put him to death and walk in newness of life.
