At the foundation of the Book of Job is the truth that this life is not all physical! One of the very powerful and unique gifts of the Book of Job, is that the characters allow us to examine discouragement and depression from the perspectives of a victim, a friend, a counselor, a pastor, a demon, Satan, and from God’s viewpoint. And a primary revelation in Job, for the people of God in particular, is that the challenges, trials, sufferings, discouragements, and depressions are not all physical. There are spiritual powers at work that we must always take into consideration.
