God calls us to bear much fruit. But if we constantly look back — at our sins, our regrets, our failures, our hurts, even our bad habits — we become like the plowman whose crooked lines ruin the field. We become unproductive. We fail to give God our whole heart. We are called to love God with all our hearts, soul, and mind. Looking back prevents us from doing this. Therefore, we are to look ahead at what God has in store for us. We are reminded of this principle in Philippians 3:13–14 —forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to the things which are ahead.
