"God will not allow more on you than you can bear!" Is that true?

In mainstream religion, the statement is ubiquitous, and I have stated it myself, as though it is a quote right out of the Bible. But is it a quote from Scripture? If not a direct quote, what scripture is used to support the statement or belief? And is that statement, based on that scripture, true?
