The Feast of Trumpets: Our Only Hope
Written by Gabe Ellis
Our world desperately needs hope. What is our hope? As we approach the Feast of Trumpets, it’s important to remember that this feast reveals our only hope.
“Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope!” These are the famous words of Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher in the film Star Wars: A New Hope. Captured by the Empire, Leia, through a hologram message, pleads for help from Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan eventually get the message and venture off to save the damsel in distress from the menacing hands of Darth Vader. In Princess Leia’s case, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker were her only hope for escaping the clutches of the Empire.
What is the only hope for our world and for mankind?
God’s plan of salvation
God’s annual festivals illustrate both present and future events. The spring festivals (the Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the Feast of Pentecost) represent our present hope today. They provide hope that we can be forgiven of our sins and become like Jesus Christ through the power and help of God’s Spirit—the true Force that can be with us.
The last four festivals picture our future hope. The Feast of Trumpets pictures the return of Jesus Christ to establish the rule of His government on earth. It will be a ground-shaking event of epic proportions! What does the Feast of Trumpets have to do with the hope for all mankind?
Jesus Christ’s return is our only hope!
The return of Jesus Christ is mankind’s hope! The Feast of Trumpets depicts the glorious second coming, the final return of Jesus Christ. When the seventh trumpet blasts, He will return to save the earth from being destroyed. Revelation 11:15 paints a word picture of Jesus Christ’s literal return:
“Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!’”
All of the corrupt governments of our world will be replaced with one perfect government under the rule of Jesus Christ. The return of Christ will not be a quiet and solemn event. He will come with great power and force to save the world from total annihilation. Until that great day, we can find comfort and hope in knowing God the Father has a plan for His Son to come soon and save mankind.
