God’s Construction Team

Construction site with men workingWhat are we building today?

When you imagine a construction site, you may picture things like a bulldozer, dirt, cement blocks, a stack of wood, a truckload of tools and a willing crew with a blueprint of the completed goal.

In addition to that detailed blueprint, the architect has likely also provided the owner with a beautiful artist’s conception of the finished project, complete with landscaping.

Our own Christian lives can, in many ways, resemble a construction project.

Blueprint from God

God has a complete blueprint for each of us. He knows exactly where each of us fits so beautifully into the family He is currently constructing.

Blueprint of a house, representing God's plan for our livesEach of us is in a different construction phase. Maybe you are physically building your family with a pregnancy. Maybe you are a caregiver to your loving husband of 53 years. You may have a friend who is helping to build her daughter’s wedding dream. You may find yourself moving your youngest child to college.

In each of these life stages we are building not only our own Christian lives and purposes, but also helping to build those of others.

Five action steps

On the spiritual construction team, it is important to take five action steps:

  • First, we must pray while building. Our regular prayers can be compared to the nails that are needed to construct a spiritually sound building. They help firmly fasten every part of the building together as we pray for the other workers alongside us (1 Thessalonians 5:17).
  • Second, we must have a willing heart and attitude (1 Chronicles 28:9), no matter the weather that we are building in. This can be easier said than done at times.
  • Third, be sure to focus on God’s priorities. We must focus on His plans, not our own blueprints (Deuteronomy 6:5).
  • Fourth, be sure to encourage the other members on God’s construction team, cheering one another on (Hebrews 10:24-25).
  • Last, be reassured that God will provide the tools that are needed; we cannot do it on our own. God receives the credit for all that is successfully accomplished. He has already designed, provided, created and established the final project (1 Samuel 12:22; 1 Chronicles 29:10-19).

We are a spiritual construction crew. We are on God’s construction team. So, whether you are building the foundation of a smiling toddler, helping a dear friend remodel after a trial or reinforcing a beautiful, aged stone wall of an elderly pioneer, remember you are on God’s construction team. You are building a project that the Supervisor and His Son are directing and blessing from the beginning to the end.
